7 Fall Activities in the Finger Lakes

There’s just something special about fall in the Finger Lakes. The mornings turn crisp, the hills glow with color, and farm stands fill up with the freshest harvests. From Victor to Canandaigua Lake, autumn truly brings out some of the best parts of our region.

Whether you’re planning a weekend day trip, looking for things to do with visiting family, or simply want to enjoy a slower Saturday close to home, there’s plenty to add to your fall bucket list.

We put together seven favorite fall activities to help you make the most of the season. And if a little extra relaxation sounds nice after a day outside, we’ll share a few optional ways recreational cannabis can fit into your autumn routine, too!

As your local neighbor, you’ll find FingerLakes Cannabis Co. in Victor’s historic Railroad Street train car, with a brand-new Penfield location opening this fall.

1. Take in the foliage from a Bristol Mountain chairlift

You don’t need to tackle a steep trail to enjoy amazing fall foliage.

Head to Bristol Mountain in Canandaigua and hop on the Sky Ride for a relaxed trip above the Bristol Hills. From the chairlift, you’ll get a panoramic view of the landscape covered in autumn reds, oranges, and golds. It’s an easy way to enjoy one of the region’s best views. Plus, there’s something special about seeing the hills from above.

Pro tip: Try visiting on a clear weekday morning for a quieter experience. After your ride, grab a warm drink at the base lodge and take in the scenery. And don’t forget to bring a light jacket, because that chairlift breeze can be chilly!

2. Unwind along the Seneca and Keuka Lake Wine Trails

Fall was made for a Finger Lakes wine tour.

The Seneca and Keuka Lake wine trails offer beautiful scenery, cozy tasting rooms, and plenty of local history. The region is known around the world for its cool-climate wines, including Riesling and Cabernet Franc.

You can make an entire leisurely afternoon of it. Visit a few smaller wineries, explore a tasting room with a fire pit, or find a spot where you can enjoy views of the lake and changing leaves. You don’t have to pack your schedule, either. Pick a few stops, leave room for lunch, and enjoy the views on the ride between them (with a designated driver, of course).

3. Go apple picking and enjoy a cozy porch pairing

Few things say autumn like a fresh-picked apple.

Visit an orchard around Victor, Fairport, Pittsford, or one of the surrounding towns. Fill a bag with local Honeycrisps, then grab some warm cider and a fresh cider donut before heading home.

Once you’re back, you can keep the cozy feeling going. Bake an apple tart, make homemade applesauce, or simply sit on the porch with a warm drink. For adults who enjoy cannabis, a low-dose edible or infused beverage can be a great addition here.

Look for products with clearly labeled doses, especially if you’re new to cannabis. Not sure where to start? Our budtenders at both the Victor shop and our new Penfield location can walk you through approachable, precisely dosed options without the pressure. 4. Explore autumn trail walks and scenic overlooks

You don’t need to go far to get outside this fall.

The Victor Hiking Trails offer a great way to explore the woods close to home. Mendon Ponds Park is another local favorite, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the changing leaves and spot wildlife. Don’t miss a tour at Wild Wings, a local bird rescue facility!

For a different kind of scenery, head south toward Grimes Glen. Its trails and boardwalk areas offer a beautiful way to experience the landscape around Naples. For an especially beautiful outing, plan your walk around golden hour. The low afternoon light can make already-colorful leaves look even more vibrant — don’t forget your camera!

5. Enjoy the thrill of a haunted hayride or corn maze

Fall isn’t complete without a little spooky season fun.

Look for local farms offering haunted hayrides, twilight events, or classic corn mazes. Think crisp evening air, the smell of a bonfire, hay under your boots, and just enough spooky fun to keep things interesting.

Bring your partner for an autumn date night. Invite the whole family. Or gather the crew and see who gets lost first in the corn maze. No matter who you bring along, it’s nostalgic holiday fun for everyone.

6. Settle in for cozy autumn camping under the stars

Summer isn’t the only season for camping in the Finger Lakes!

Fall means fewer bugs, crisper air, and changing leaves that make your campsite views even better. Plan a weekend at places like Robert H. Treman, Taughannock Falls, or Watkins Glen State Park. You can keep things rustic with a tent or make it a little more comfortable with a glamping setup.

Pack your favorite campfire snacks, warm layers, and a good book. Once the sun goes down, settle in by the fire and look for constellations in the clear night sky.

For adults who use cannabis, a small-batch tincture or another low-dose product, like a warm-spiced infused tea or beverage, can be part of a relaxing evening at camp. A non-intoxicating topical may also be an option for winding down after a hike or setting up camp.

7. Stop by the new Penfield dispensary on your fall route

If your autumn adventures take you through Penfield, there’s a new stop to add to your list.

FingerLakes Cannabis Co. is opening its second dispensary in Penfield this fall. The new location brings the same welcoming, zero-pressure experience you’ll find at our historic Railroad Street location in Victor.

Our shelves feature New York State-tested cannabis from craft growers and small-batch makers, with plenty of options for both experienced consumers and curious newcomers.

You don’t need to know exactly what you’re looking for. Stop in, tell our budtenders what you’re interested in, and let us help you find something that fits.
